YUZUNCU YIL UNIVERSITY

HISTORY – INTRODUCTION

The idea of founding a university in the eastern part of the Republic of Türkiye was first initiated, as always, by our grand leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, who gained the admiration of the whole humanity with his right decisions and forward thinking.

The University of East was to be founded on his will in Van, as the third university of Türkiye after İstanbul and Ankara Universities.  It was finally established on 20 July 1982 under the name of Yüzüncü Yıl University.

Today, our university has 10 faculties, 18 vocational schools, 3 institutes and 15 research and application centres, and acquired its place among the developed universities as an institution that aims to contribute to science, targeting and following the major developments in all fields of contemporary sciences.

The Yüzüncü Yıl University is proud to have up-to-date educational facilities, the growing number of laboratories fully equipped with state-of-the-art technology, student dormitories, social facilities; and provides contemporary standard of education with its academicians who follow Atatürk’s ideals.

Being in the easternmost of Türkiye, our university stands out as an institution situated in a region with its natural wonders waiting to be explored.  There is so much to see and learn for young brains in this truly untouched region with mountains, lakes, subterranean richness, vegetation and zoology.
